How to motivate yourself to stay on Your Weight Loss Journey

Staying motivated can be quite a task, even for the most motivated of us. It is normal to sometimes we go into a slump that can make it difficult to even think about making positive changes in your life. If you get into such a state, you have to remember what you are trying to work towards. More importantly, you can get yourself back on track to positive change by doing the following:

Make a Plan and set goals

Most people go into a slump because they have too much to handle at the same time and this saps their energy and motivation. If this is the case for you, you have to remember that if you take on too many things at the same time, you will very likely end up being overwhelmed. To change this:

Write down your plan. Failing to plan is actually planning to fail. Whenever you start going off track, having a written down reference that you can go back to is a useful way to stay focused.

Your plan should focus on one goal at a time. You can include milestones and tick them off as you go. When stating your goal, write it out in as few words as possible.

Post Your Goal

Post your goal up where you can see it every day. A refrigerator, or on a wall near your dresser, bathroom mirror or any other area in the house that you regularly use. Set reminders on your phone to ensure you follow through daily.

Mind the timing of your goal. If your goal requires physical exertion, such as exercise, schedule it for a time of the day when you are most energetic. It would be difficult, for instance, to exercise after a long commute in the evening as you are likely to be exhausted at that time.

Commit Publicly

It’s difficult to back down after committing publicly to something. Talking to friends and family about what you plan to do is a great way to stay accountable and ensure you follow through. It will keep you going during times of low motivation.

Find Inspiration

Support groups, especially those with people who have achieved what you want to achieve, can be a great source of inspiration. You can visit this blog to learn more about support group at Tristate Bariatrics and the benefits of attending our support sessions.

Reward Yourself

Give yourself a pat on the back after you complete a milestone or achieve your goal. You can get yourself an item of clothing, enroll for cooking classes to learn how to cook healthier meals, go to the spa, among many other good ideas.

Don’t allow your jubilation to get in the way of achieving your goals. After each success, don’t relax. But keep pushing and keep your eye on the end goal.
